Palmyra, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is one of the most emblematic cities of ancient Syria. In the 1950s, it was excavated as part of Switzerland’s first major archaeological project abroad. Among the Roman-era monuments studied was the temple of Baalshamîn, the “master of the heavens”.
